As an avid fan of all things beauty, I purchase a lot of hair and make-up product, but I’m generally only satisfied with about 50% of what I buy. Because of this, I found myself wishing I had a source that told me how an item actually worked vs. how it would ideally work in real life situations. Hence, The Review Series. Here I’ll talk about products that I’ve tried and what I’ve liked or disliked about them based on a real world setting. Enjoy!
Alrighty, welcome to the first in The Review Series! A little while ago, I wrote this post about my search for a new concealer. I started with the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer because a). it’s convenient to locate (there are Sephora’s EVERYWHERE) and b). it’s so popular!! I knew it had to be one of the first I tried out. To set the stage, here is what I’ve been looking for in a concealer: build-able, good coverage, long wearing, can conceal a variety of skin issues, and easy to apply. Low expectations right ?
After trying it out, it’s obvious to me why this item is so popular. First off, it comes in 10 different shades, offering good variety. Some of my frustration with concealer in the past has been lack of variety in color choices. There is nothing worse than a concealer (or foundation, for that matter) that doesn’t match your skin tone. With 10 different shades to choose from, it’s highly likely that this concealer comes in a shade perfect for you.
Application also gets an A+. The sponge applicator is super easy to use and doesn’t require me to use my fingers to apply. Because of the consitency of this concealer (creamy, but not too thick), it is also easy to blend and layer. There are days when I don’t get enough sleep (aka every night), and I have a little bit more to cover up come morning time. This concealer is fab because I can create more coverage by layering it upon itself. I mainly use this sponge to blend and apply concealer, and its like these two were made to be used together.
As for longevity, I think this would be my only complaint. Even though my under eyes stayed well concealed throughout the day, I found that if I applied concealer on other areas of my face, by mid afternoon it was starting to flake off. However, the change from summer to fall means my skin is a little more dry than normal, which could lead to flaking that has nothing to do with my concealer. I’ll keep my eye on it to see if this remains my experience long term.
Overall, I’m very happy with this concealer and the coverage/versatility it offers. And while I’m excited to try the other items on my list, I’m sure this one from Nars will remain a part of my beauty arsenal for some time to come.
